Category 6A Cabling
Last Updated: Tuesday 31 March 2009
Augmented category 6 cable, or ‘cat 6a’, is the newest standard defined in November 2008 in ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-B.2-10. The cable operates at 500MHz, twice that of cat 6, and at speeds of 10Gbps, reliably up to 100m, (10GbaseT).
The cable still consists of 4 pairs of copper wires, which are terminated onto RJ45 connectors. The containment for this cable however, is very specialist, as are the methods required to install and terminate this specification of cable. All implications will be discussed at the planning stage with one of our trained account managers.
